Received, gratefully, after wine tasting at CAVA, Moraira, Jan 2013

Hi Beverly; Hi Hugh (or should that be High Hugh?),

(This generous comment has been sent by its authors, Mick and Ros, to the group’s organisers, Hugh and Beverly – as you might have guessed, Hugh is particularly tall!)

Many, many thanks for organising such a splendid evening at Cava. It certainly helped that we knew most of the lovely people there and, of course we assumed that the tapas would be superb. Colin is always a very safe pair of hands guaranteed to entertain and educate and he didn’t disappoint – despite his recent accident (aaaarh!). He really does wear his knowledge and experience lightly, doesn’t he? Anyway, great evening, lots of fun, excellent tapas and gorgeous wine – our sort of evening, really!

CAVA, Moraira's Gourmet Tapas/Wine Bar!

Lots of love, Mick (and Ros, of course) xx

Pre-Valentines Wine Tasting, Javea Port!

Don’t miss this! After the successful wine tasting at Javea Port’s new Wine Merchants, Bodega Puerto, last October, I’ve been asked to present another, just in time to recommend wine purchases, and taste of course, for Valentines Day celebrations.

Please arrive from 6:30pm for a 7pm start on Thursday 7th Feb.

We’ll be tasting:

An excellent (and expensive ) Vintage Rosado Cava

A fruit driven dry white from Rueda

A Red Rioja Crianza 2009

A Red Ribera del Duero Crianza 2009 (therefore a chance to compare the two regions, like for like!)

A Red Rioja Reserva 2008

There will be nibbles to enjoy with the wines.

There’ll be a 5% discount on everything on the shop for this night only (though you will be able pay on the night and collect another day if you prefer).

Plus there are other excellent offers – one of which, for example, will give you a bottle of the Red Reseva above and two Reserva Cavas to take home with it!!

Please call me, 629 388 159, or e-mail colin@colinharknessonwine.com to reserve – places are limited and we are nearly half full already!

Bodega Visit, February 11th 2013 – super day out!

Hot off the press – I’ve arranged a visit to the beautiful 18th Century Finca that is home to the Aristocratic Velaquez Family and where they make their top DO Valencia wines! Bodegas Los Frailes is a founder member of the influential and prestigious Terres dels Alforíns group of Valencian bodegas dedicated to making top quality wines in harmony with the environment.

Bodegas Los Frailes makes some of the best organic wines in Spain, wines that match and beat very many wines that do not farm according to organic principles – we’re not talking good, for organic, we’re talking good, full stop!

We will tour the beautiful finca and wine making facility, guided by the current incumbent, Don Miguel Velazquez, as well as taste four of his top wines. We’ll learn the fascinating history of the finca, once a Jesuit Monastery, and how the bodega has been in the family’s hands for hundreds of years!

Then we’ll lunch at the top Finca Rural Restaurant Mas Monserrat – with wine, of course!

The cost of the whole day is just 49€/person. Remember – it’s on Monday 11th February, with pick up points from Calpe – Oliva.

Please call (00 34) 629 388 159 to reserve – places are limited and at the time of writing we are already over a third full!

Heat Gold FM’s Wines of the Month mean discounted wines – for you!

Check out Heat Gold's Wines of the Month - and save money too!
Hola everyone – and a very Happy New year to you all!
I’m now back in the office after our annual UK sojourn and I’m raring to go!
I’ll be organising a number of wine related events throughout 2013 and I do hope you’ll be able to join me!
The first, rather exciting, event, which has money saving advantages for you too, is the On-Air wine tasting that I’ll be presenting with Eric Taylor, on Heat Gold FM on Tuesday 22nd January, at 14:20 hrs – www.heatgold.fm and 94·1.
We’ll be tasting and discussing the Heat Gold FM Wines of the Month, as supplied by Supermercados Pepe La Sal, Moraira. These wines are now available to buy, from the Pepe La Sal store on the Moraira/Calpe Coast Road only, with a 1€ discounted price per bottle – a saving of about 15%!! Hurry though, they’ll only be discounted up and including 22nd Jan!
They are the super, fruit driven new release Bodegas Torres dry white wine from DO Rueda, called Verdeo, whose normal price is 5:45€; and the lovely Torres red from Rioja, Ibéricos Crianza 2009Tempranillo, normally priced at 5:90€!
Al you’ll need to do is mention Heat Gold FM Radio when you go through the tills and although the full price will appear at first on the ticket, you’ll find at the bottom that there will be a discount of 1€ per bottle, taken from the total cost of your shopping!
Obviously the more bottles they sell the more keen they’ll be to continue with the promotion and therefore the more opportunities for us to buy good wines at discounted prices! At under 5€ these wines really are good value!
Plus you’ll also be able to taste them in the luxury of your own home whilst Eric and I do the same in the studio and if you want you can text or skype the studio with your questions and comments! We are talking interactive wine tasting here!!
