Details to follow but I’ll be presenting a series of wine tastings with Bodegas Vicente Gandia, probably in June.

Famous for their excellent price/quality ratio, we’ll be tasting four or five of their wines, with tapas and there will be some introductory offers re buying from their on-line shop!

Details to follow – watch this space!

Bodega Mustiguillo

Wow! It’s cold inland from Valencia! I was there 11th Feb. having been invited to tour and taste at the famous and outstanding Bodega Mustiguillo, to the north of Utiel on the Teruel road. 3ºC plus wind chill – now that’s cold!

But it was certainly worth it! Bodegas Mustiguillo essentially has its own DO, Pago El Terrerazo, and it’s wines are excellent.

I tasted a superb white wine made with local grape variety Merseguera which under mustiguillo feb 2014 035normal circumstances doesn’t have a lot of personality. However when grown at 900m above sea level and handled with loving care, including fermentation in oak and a little ageing on its lees – it can be spectacular. Guía Peñin rates it the best Mediterranean white wine you can find!

Three reds came next – the Mestizaje with the emblematic label, which has to be one of the best entry level wines in Spain! It’s juicy with a touch of tobacco on the nose and a goodmustiguillo feb 2014 011 depth and length.

One of the two flagship wines Finca Terrerazo 2011 whilst drinking well now (it’s just been released onto the market), with power and elegance in equal measure, is a wine for the future too! 100% Bobal and one of those being considered in #TheGreatBobalTasteOff is top quality.

mustiguillo feb 2014 034And the other top wine of the bodega, Quincha Corral 2011, in some ways is the same – but more so! Intense fruit from very old vines, more weight and body and yet maintaining a pleasing elegance. It’s structured, concentrated, deeply flavoured with excellent ripe fruit and a savoury character. Another one for the cellar, and will last easily ten years!

Surely medal winners at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2014!

Hi Colin
Thank you for your kind note.  We thoroughly enjoyed your talk and I have heard nothing but good feedback from everyone.  So it looks like a good time was had by all.
Bodega visits are always popular with our membership, so hopefully we can slot one into the programme in the not too distant future.
Many thanks again for such an informative and interesting talk.
Kind regards
